Kincoppal-Rose Bay Bursary

Kincoppal-Rose Bay School of the Sacred Heart has a history and tradition of offering educational opportunities through financial assistance to families. Kincoppal-Rose Bay School provides students from rural and regional Australia and from the indigenous community, with financial support to attend KRB on a bursary.

Reflecting our long history of boarding the school welcomes applications from families, particularly those who have experienced hardship through drought and other rural challenges. The school endeavours to assist as many families as possible with partial remission of tuition fees only, not including boarding fees, for eligible for students.

To ensure continuity of the bursary program each bursary is reviewed annually in regard to the family’s current financial position (except Year 11 & 12 students which cover 2 years i.e. Year 11 entry). A bursary is awarded at the Principal’s discretion. The names of bursary applicants and recipients remain confidential. Information provided by families is confidential to the Principal and Business Manager.

Applicants are not required to sit the Scholarship Examination unless they are also applying for a Scholarship which is a separate program for students who demonstrate particular ability in one or more areas.

The Dunphy Foundation Sister Philomene Tiernan rscj Bursary - for a new student entering Year 9, 10, or 11 in 2017 - (Currently Closed)

The Dunphy Foundation Sister Philomene Tiernan rscj Bursary is available for a new student entering Year 9, 10, or 11 in 2017 and covers tuition and boarding fees. It will be awarded to a student who comes from regional area in NSW or QLD and is not currently attending Kincoppal - Rose Bay who can demonstrate financial need, whose family can demonstrate support of the goals of Sacred Heart education, and who can demonstrate the ability to make a positive contribution to the KRB school community.

Denise Dunphy attended Rose Bay Convent during the 1960s.  Three generations of her family are also alumnae from Rose Bay and Kincoppal Rose Bay.  All came from country NSW with Denise’s mother a member of the Stalley family from “Toorale” station, Bourke.  Denise and her late mother owned property at Godooga for many years until 10 years ago.

Denise first met Sr Phil Tiernan when Sr Phil was a young novice at Rose Bay in the 1960s.  The two developed a strong friendship and remained in contact.  Denise then met Sr Phil again in 2000 when they both joined Bishop David Walker on his pilgrimage to Italy (the pilgrimage was to have been to the Holy Land but at the eleventh hour it simply became too dangerous to travel to Israel).

“Our friendship was renewed”, said Denise.  “We simply picked up where we left off and Phil’s character, sense of humour and that beautiful smile made for a very special time”.

Sr Philomene Tiernan rscj died as a result of the Malaysian Airlines Flight 17 crash on 17 July, 2015.  For Denise it was like losing a member of her own family.

This Bursary has therefore come about through the very generous decision of Denise to create a lasting memory of Sr Phil in the education of girls.  This was an area in which Sr Phil was so dedicated.

The Dunphy Foundation Sister Philomene Tiernan rscj Bursary covers full tuition and boarding fees at Kincoppal – Rose Bay School. It will be awarded to a student:

  • who comes from a regional area in NSW or QLD and is not currently attending Kincoppal – Rose Bay School
  • who can demonstrate financial need and who would be unable to attend Kincoppal – Rose Bay School without this assistance
  • whose family is able to demonstrate support of the goals of Sacred Heart education
  • who can demonstrate the ability to contribute to the school community
