Senior School Curriculum

Stage 4 – Years 7 & 8

The Key Learning Areas are:
  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Religious Education
  • Human Society and Its Environment (History & Geography)
  • Languages - French & Chinese
  • Creative Arts (Visual Arts and Music)
  • Technology
  • Personal Development/Health/Physical Education
  • IGenius 

In Year 7 students are tested and placed into ability-based groupings for Mathematics and then in Year 8 such groupings are also formed in Science, English and French.

Stage 5 – Years 9 & 10

All students study:

 

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Religious Education
  • History
  • Geography
  • Personal Development/Health/Physical Education

And two electives from:

 

  • Commerce
  • Design and Technology
  • Drama
  • French
  • Chinese
  • Music
  • Photographic and Digital Media
  • Visual Arts
  • International Studies
  • Year 10 Elective History
  • ESL (for international students as required)
  • Information Software Technology

All subjects, with the exception of French, may be taken up in Year 10 without previous study. 

Stage 6 – Years 11 & 12

For the Year 11 Preliminary Course, students must study:

 

  • At least 1 unit of Studies of Religion
  • One of the three English courses (English Advanced, English Standard and ESL).

In addition, students may follow one of the following courses (1 unit) which are Preliminary only:

 

  • Fundamentals of English
  • Photography

Other courses offered are:

  • Chinese Continuers

  • Design and Technology 
  • Economics
  • English Extension
  • French Continuers
  • Geography
  • Italian Beginners
  • Japanese Beginners

  • Mathematics (General, 2U, Extension)
  • Modern History
  • Music 1&2
  • Personal Development/Health/Physical Education
  • Physics
  • Visual Arts.

HSC courses include all listed above as well as the following extension courses:

 

  • English Extension 2
  • Mathematics Extension 2
  • History Extension 
  • French Extension
  • Music Extension

Courses not included at school may be studied via the Saturday School of Community Languages, the Open High School or Distance Education.
